The atmosphere at Don Bosco Industrial Training Institute, Ranchi, was filled with emotion, celebration, and gratitude on the 23rd of June 2025, as the institute bid a heartfelt farewell to the second-year (final year) trainees of the four core trades – Machinist, Electrician, Fitter, and Welder. The event, meticulously organized by the first-year trainees, was a tribute to the journey, growth, and unforgettable memories of the outgoing batch.
The celebrations commenced in a grand and culturally vibrant manner with a traditional welcome procession, echoing the rich tribal heritage of Jharkhand. Dressed in ethnic attire and carrying musical instruments, the first-year students led the second-year trainees in a colorful parade filled with music, dance, and joy. The energy and rhythm of traditional beats created an air of festivity and deep-rooted cultural pride, marking a meaningful beginning to the event.
Upon reaching the Program Hall, the formal proceedings of the farewell celebration began. The atmosphere inside was both festive and respectful as the program opened with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, symbolizing knowledge, enlightenment, and the blessings of a bright future ahead. The dignitaries invited for the lamp-lighting included Fr. George Tharayil, Br. Tom (Principal), Br. Ignatius, Sir Isidore, Sir Alosius, along with one representative each from the second-year and first-year students.
Fr. George Tharayil, in his inaugural address, delivered a thought-provoking and inspiring message to the outgoing students. He emphasized that while the skills acquired at Don Bosco ITI are vital, it is the values, discipline, and character formation that will sustain them in the real world. His words resonated deeply with the students, encouraging them to hold high the Don Bosco legacy wherever they go.
The program was further adorned with a kaleidoscope of cultural performances – lively dances, soulful songs, and musical presentations – staged by both first and second-year students. These performances not only added flavour and color to the celebration but also reflected the unity, talent, and enthusiasm of the student community.
One of the highlights of the event was the prize distribution ceremony, a proud moment for many who excelled in academics, sports, discipline, and co-curricular activities throughout the year. Awards, trophies, mementos, and certificates were given out in categories such as:
- Champions of Football, Volleyball, and Cricket tournaments
- Winners of Techxibition, Speech Competition, Debate, and Quiz
- Best Trainee of the Year
- Best House of the Year
- First in Class across all four trades
- Students with 100% attendance
These recognitions were not just accolades but a testament to the hard work, commitment, and spirit of the students. Each name called was met with cheers and applause, lighting up the faces of students and teachers alike.
Br. Tom, the Principal of Don Bosco ITI, addressed the gathering with words of encouragement and appreciation. He warmly congratulated all the prize winners and highlighted the importance of certificates and recognitions in shaping their professional future. He reminded the students of the power of discipline and determination in achieving excellence in life. His words of gratitude extended to the teachers and students who worked tirelessly to organize such a meaningful and seamless farewell program.
As the formal program came to a close, everyone was invited to partake in a sumptuous meal lovingly prepared by both the staff and students. The delicious food, shared in a spirit of camaraderie, added to the joy and bonding of the occasion. Despite the looming clouds, the program was beautifully concluded just before the rain began, as if nature itself chose to bless the farewell.
The event was not just a goodbye but a celebration of journeys taken, friendships made, lessons learned, and dreams yet to be fulfilled. The farewell will remain a cherished memory in the hearts of all, a symbol of the enduring Don Bosco spirit that prepares its students not just for work, but for life.
