On-the-Job Training (OJT) in industries plays a vital role in enhancing the technical competence, practical skills, and overall vision of trainees. It provides them with valuable exposure to the actual industrial environment and helps them understand workplace practices, discipline, safety standards, and professional responsibilities. Such industry exposure can have a lasting impact on their personal and professional development. Moreover, OJT is an integral and mandatory component of the ITI curriculum prescribed by the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT).
Keeping these objectives in mind, Don Bosco Pvt. ITI, Kokar, was privileged to be invited by MECON Limited to participate in an OJT program at its campus in Ranchi.
For 53 trainees from the Fitter and Machinist trades, this opportunity was truly a dream come true. They commenced their OJT on 5 August 2023. On the first day, the Principal, accompanied by three members of the training staff, escorted the trainees to the MECON campus and facilitated their induction into the program.
As part of the training, the trainees are receiving hands-on exposure to AutoCAD as well as classroom inputs related to various aspects of the steel industry. They have shown great enthusiasm and interest in learning from this valuable industrial experience. The program is further enriched by the provision of a stipend and lunch for the trainees.
The trainees attend classes and practical sessions at MECON during the first half of the day and return to the institute in the second half to continue their regular classes and other institutional activities. The OJT program is scheduled to be completed in three months.
